We offered the Ultimate Alien in two colors:  Martian Cream and Galactic Green. Martian Cream out-sold Galactic Green 20-to-one.  For collectors, Galactic Green is next to impossible to find.

Origin of the ULTIMATE ALIEN

The Ultimate Alien was an inspired collaboration between Bill Nelson and myself in 1978.  I made sketches of the basic design (SKETCHES), Bill made refined drawings (REFINED DRAWINGS), and we went to work on the actual sculpture.

Our plan was to raise money for my ilm.  Bill had connections at Playboy magazine and got our mask featured in the Potpourri section in 1978 (Playboy).  We placed an ad in Starlog Magazine and mailed flyers to inquirers. (FLYER 1) (FLYER 2) Sales were decent, but producing a volume of latex masks from a plaster mold was slow and physical.  Bill and I filled orders while doing our day jobs.

To increase exposure, we made a deal with Ron Quinn at R. Quinn Studios to make and sell our designs. (link 13).  Our connection with Ron led to the Ultimate Alien being featured on the "Project UFO" TV series produced by Jack Webb, Sighting 4026: The Atlantic Queen Incident. (PROJECT UFO)

The Ultimate Alien was featured in a local television and print advertising campaign in 1978, and appeared in a candid photo in the Village Voice. (Village Voice)

In 1982 we made a deal with Jeff Keim, founder of Death Studios, to carry some of our masks.

All of this ended in the early 80's, however,  as I left mask making to focus on filmmaking.

Now, some 43 years later, thanks to encouragement and valuable partnering by my daughter, Kathryn Brady Combs, I have done what I should have done years ago:  post this website.
